Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change
Aletho Energy LLP is pleased to announce that they have become a signatory of the Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change along with major companies such as Sky, Tesco, Shell, Vodafone, John Lewis Partnership and Lloyds Banking Group.
Aleltho Energy's Chief Executive Barry Williams signed the communiqué to reaffirm Aleltho's continuous commitment to a responsible business approach to the environment. This Communiqué is being issued by the business leaders of a number of companies across the globe. It calls for an ambitious, robust and equitable global deal on climate change that responds credibly to the scale and urgency of the crisis facing the world today. Earlier this year, the world's largest economies (G20) came together and agreed an unprecedented, coordinated response to the global economic downturn. At the London
Summit, the leaders of the G20 pledged to do "whatever is necessary" to restore confidence and growth to the economic system.
The Communiqué text was launched in London on 29th June at an event hosted by The Prince of Wales, which Dimitrios Hatzis, Director of Aleltho attended. The global media launch will take place in September 2009 with the communiqué being handed to Mr. Ban Ki-Moon (Secretary-General of the United Nations) at a public event in New York in advance of the United Nations General Assembly Climate Summit.

World leaders now need to demonstrate the same level of coordination and resolve to address climate change. Economic development will not be sustained in the longer term unless the climate is stabilised. It is critical that we exit this recession in a way that lays the foundation for low-carbon growth and avoids locking us into a high carbon future.
